Driving LS&T Implementation through Collaboration

Collaboration is the key to everything the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative does. We learn from the work that others are doing in the community and bring those ideas back to inform our Research and Development (R&D). This helps us serve in leadership, participating membership, and consulting roles within Department of Defense and with other government groups who are focused on or interested in implementing our learning science and technology (LS&T).

ADL has focused on advising for the U.S. armed services and federal government entities over the years. Many of our subject matter experts have engaged with a number of groups including the Department of Education, Department of Transportation, Defense Language Institute English Language Center, Army Training and Doctrine Command, Naval Education and Training Command, Naval Postgraduate School, and Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division to explore collaboration opportunities and advise on a variety of areas including the transition to mobile technology, simulations, and performance tracking and analysis.

AFSOC

One unique consulting engagement to date is with the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC). They are in the early stages of researching the implementation of an Enterprise Training System (ETS) to their Nonsecure Internet Protocol Router Network and Secret Internet Protocol Router Network. This implementation of the ETS is taking place in three phases, which include:

  1. Course of Action (COA) Analysis
  2. Standup
  3. Sustainment

Over the past couple of months, ADL's Jason Haag and Marcus Birtwhistle have been meeting with AFSOC leadership. ADL is primarily providing subject matter expertise on the Experience API (xAPI) and learning system architectures. Once the COA analysis is complete, ADL will be analyzing their findings and providing recommendations on the suitable processes, systems, and services that could be put in place.

Stay tuned for more updates about this effort! If you are interested in unbiased LS&T consultation or research, please contact us!
